He usually plays electric and acoustic guitar and a solo kick-drum. He is the brother of actor Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Sherlock, The Office) and musician Tim Freeman (Frazier Chorus).
He and his wife Stevie founded the Union Music Store in Lewes, East Sussex. He is a member of the Americana Music Association (Nashville) and the Americana Music Association UK. His song «The Fire», co-written with Ben Glover, was nominated for UK Americana Awards for British Song of the Year. In 2019, Freeman visited the House Of Songs Songwriter Summit in Bentonville, Arkansas, where he wrote with Elles Bailey, Dylan Earle, Graham Weber, Jonathan Terrell. His 2019 album Dreams About Falling, written with Angaleena Presley, Ben Glover, Michael Logen, Brandy Zdan, Amy Speace and Amy Tudor.  (Two songs from Freeman`s second album were written with Amy Tudor, a Kentucky poet.) American Roots UK «Down Range» quickly followed the equally moving song «The Fire», a song by Ben Glover, whose last release «Shorebound» won the UK album of the year at the 2019 UK Americana Awards. The track itself was written in the wake of the catastrophic Grenfell Tower fire in 2017 and uses powerful images to call moving scenes of ghosts, smoke and betrayals.
